Frustration

My main frustration right now is that I get so tired so quickly.

I start a project (such as cleaning or mowing) and about 5 to 10 minutes into it I feel as if I need to sit down and can not do more for quite awhile.

I feel bad enough about that because I feel as if nothing gets fully done around the house. But what is even worse is when I try to help Matt do a project (like washing and waxing the cars) and I work for about 5 to 10 minutes then I leave him to do all of the work on his own as I am sitting. I feel horrible leaving him to do it all.

I try. I honestly do. I just get so tired and can not do as much as I did before....

I guess I should get used to it.

Father's Day

Hi All,
I have once again taken over my wife's Blog. Mwahahahah!

Life has been good to me ever since I met this fabulous woman. This year, with so many wonderful things come to us, I was eligible for a father's day celebration! It was my first, and very fun.

Sunday morning started out like most lazy Sunday mornings. We were scheduled to bring a breakfast for our Sunday school class, so we didn't take too much time for breakfast. Lana brought me dessert from the previous night - cherry turnovers! In Bed!

Sunday school was not very memorable - apparently this was a low attendance Sunday for some reason. But enjoyable. Everyone liked the pumpkin bread (who hasn't?).

When we got back home, we had leftovers for lunch. Of course, leftovers in this house are usually very memorable. The night before, I was feeling my oats, and made a huge batch of homemade fried chicken nuggets - Alton Brown style. I'll give anyone my recipe if they want 'em - just be warned, it is not for the non-food lovers. On the side, we had mom's "Whipped to oblivion Mashed 'taters". Always a crowd pleaser.

Well, I heated up the leftover chicken, and Lana made her father's "Leftover 'tater cakes". Sitting down to eat, I found my first set of father's day cards. One from Mom 'n Dad - edited with the "Soon-to-be" part. And one from Lana. Thank you! I felt special.

The afternoon was spent doing a couple of odd chores. Mostly fun chores. We washed the cars, waxed part of one of them, and fiddled around in the garden.

During all of that, Lana instructed me to come up with a Father's Day dinner. Believe it or not, I wanted Hamburger Helper. Lana thought I was nuts. With all the wonderful things that she can make, I wanted a box dinner? I twisted her arm, and kissed her ear, and she gave in. But of course, I added my own flair to dinner. With a little spicy italian sausage and a very careful addition of cheese - we had some amazing italian not-quite-lasagna for dinner. Served on the side was Hush-puppies, and "Betty's Patented Green Beans & Ham."

After dinner, I was given my Father's Day Gift. Lana got me the final book in a series that I've been reading since "Ye Olde College Days". Very cool. She even included a Lana Authentic inscription on the title page...

...that leads to a story. A short one, so hang in there. We were wandering through a bookstore once when I found the Sci-Fi and Fantasy section. (Which reminds me, why do they mix them all the time?) Anyway, I found dozens of books that we had, and dozens more that I want. I had mentioned to Lana that since the only chance I really get to read is while I'm on the can, it'd be nice to read some of these book aloud to our kid (while I'm not on the can). Well, the inscription she gave me was "May this be one of the first books you share with our little one". I plan to make it so. Although, it will be hard to wait for them to arrive.

The evening from then on is a secret. :) I'm not telling.

Y'all have a good night.
-Matt

Year 30

This past Thursday I went from being 30 to being 31. On the day of my birthday I got to thinking about what a great year this has been. Very memorable...here are some of the highlights:

1. A marriage to a wonderful man!
2. An amazing trip to Hawaii (I would recommend this to anyone!)
3. Setting up a new house
4. A trip to New York (no, not the city) and Niagara Falls (once again with my wonderful man)
5. A trip to the beach to run a half marathon with my best friend (yes, that would be Matt again)
6. Seeing Les Miserables! (Hey! I was there too!)
7. Hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house for our parents. (I he-alped!)
8. Going to the Daniel's house for a long Christmas vacation. (I remember getting sick.)
9. Seeing Stomp in concert! (Awesome!)
10.Making a wonderful Valentine's dinner. (With me...)
11. Found out that our little one is on the way. (Yup, Mine too!)
12. And so much more....

It has been a wonderful 365 days as a 30 year old. But many new blessings and surprises are in store for 31...I am looking forward to it :)

Camping

This is a post a long time in coming (sorry for the long delay)

Over Memorial Day weekend Matt and I went camping with Steve and Sue. It was a wonderful time and here is just a little overview of the trip.
Thursday Matt came home and we finished packing, jumped in the car to drive 2 hours south to camp at Doughton Park in NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We arrived there at about 9 pm, got a camping site and set up as little as we could (mainly just the tent) and we headed to bed. The main reason that we did not want to set up a lot was 1. we were tired... 2. Steve and Sue would be arriving the next day and we were going to check out other campsites to see if any worked better for both groups.
Friday morning after a wonderful breakfast of oatmeal and a walk around the camp grounds we decided to take a nap. I woke up from my nap just in time to see Steve and Sue's car drive into the camp area. That crazy couple woke at midnight to get on the road and arrive at the campsite at 11:00 am.We were still tired from our nap, but Steve and Sue were ready to work. So we found a campsite just across the road that was better for both tents, then the building of the tarp city began. A very large tarp was erected because it was supposed to rain that weekend and under the tarp we could cook, eat, read, play games, and just in general be more comfortable. (note almost all of the pictures have green at the top...that would be our lovely tarp!)

But I learned one major thing. Camping is not about sleeping outside, or setting up the tent, or anything like that....NO it is about the COOKING! Friday night we had steak, baked potatoes, and a made from scratch cherry pie! Yes, I am proud of that cherry pie, I had never made a pie crust in the wilderness before.

Saturday we went to Brenniger's Cabin. It is a cabin that was kept pretty authentic from a couple that lived on the mountain as it was being turned into the Parkway. It was a 2 room cabin with spinning wheel, no electricity, spring house, etc. It was amazing to think about how they could live in such a small place with so little with such a large family (I think they had 5 kids!)
Then we came back to our tents to bake some cookies. Yes, you heard me right...BAKE cookies. Matt and his dad took a cardboard box and transformed it into an oven. Then Matt made his famous chocolate chip cookies and we baked them right there in the middle of a field. You could see other campers looking around and sniffing the air trying to figure out where the smell was coming from. We shared as much as people would take.

Saturday night we went to presentation on the Dulcimer done by one of the park rangers. It was very informative and also great music. Fun time all around.
Sunday Matt and I went on a hike back to Brenninger's Cabin, and just wandered around. It was nice to get a little bit of a hike in. Then we came back and played many games and read more of our books. Dinner was chicken and vegetable packets (hobos as we call them) and S'mores YUMMY!

But the time has to end at some time, so Monday morning we woke and had cherry turnovers (very similar to the cherry pie from Friday night) also baked in our oven. And spent the rest of the morning packing up. By 11:00 am we were packed and saying our good-byes. It is a sad thought to think about but I am not sure when we will see Steve and Sue again, I am so glad that they made the long drive out to come camping with us.Oh, yes...I forgot to add that it rained every day, and there were no showers at the campsite. So we were all wet, tired, and smelly by the end...but my goodness we had fun!

Kisers To The Rescue!

I love my family.

This is actually the second time that this has happened...I make a comment that a huge project is in the future for Matt and I. My family replys "oh, you need help? We will be down!" Suddenly the house is full of nine extra willing workers to get the project done.

Last time it involved building our shed (click here for the post).

This time mom, dad, Amy (sister), Mike (brother-in-law), Carol (sister), and Matt...with maybe some "help" from my four nephews did the following this past weekend:

1. They purchased, and transported my new chest freezer!

2. They painted the nursery (this is the reason that I am not in the list of helpers...due to the pregnancy my family did not want me near by due to fumes, so I was in Farmville for one of my classes while everyone was working on Saturday)

3. Some of them got on the roof to fix two shingles that broke off during a wind storm.

4. Also, dishes got done, floors got swept, things got put away...all while I was able to rest.

5. Oh, and much furniture got moved.

All had a good time (I think), all went to bed extremely tired (I know!), and Matt and I are very grateful for all of the help. What got done in one weekend would have taken us weeks to do.

I am guessing that you might want to see pictures of the room...
These are the pictures that I got over email while I was in class 2 hours away

The trim is not painted in these pictures. I may try to have Matt write a post about actually painting this room (I hear that it was quite the tale) with some of the finished pictures that he took.

Thanks to all who came, we would not have been able to do it without you.

Appointment #2

So many blogs that I want and need to do. So I will try to write at least one over the next couple of days...we shall see how that goes. But school is now out of session so I no longer have to work during the days (at least outside of the house) so I might get a few more blogs written.

Today I had my second OBGYN meeting with my doctor. I am now 11 weeks along and things are well. The baby's heart rate is bounding along at 168 bpm. My weight went down a little but neither my nurse or my doctor seemed to be worried about it. They claimed that once a person finds out that they are pregnant they eat healthier (I guess that is true for me), they also asked if I have had morning sickness (I have had morning ickyness, but not sickness...so that does not explain the weight loss), and also the extreme amount of calories that the baby is burning up as it is growing. I eat when I am hungry, and I try to eat good things, so I will keep that up.

I did get to see the baby again on a sonogram :) I did not expect to see another sonogram until I was about 20 weeks along and have the detailed sonogram that tells the gender of the baby. But the doctor explained to me that they have a tool to listen to the baby's heartbeat, but it works best after 12 weeks along. So instead, they used an old sonogram machine that they keep on hand mainly to check the heart beat. The doctor was showing me the head, and the hand that the baby had raised. He mentioned that the baby was waving at me and I started to laugh. As I laughed I watched the baby's legs kick, and the arms move. The doctor told me that I woke him/her up. Then we proceeded to watch the baby stretch out and try to turn a little. It was amazing to see since our first sonogram did not show much movement (if any at all) and it was so much more detailed this time.

This is such a miracle. It is hard to believe all that is happening inside of me!
