Bells

Since Matt's blog, we have not had a chance to attend the church that we visited that day again. But we did have a chance to attend two handbells practices and one choir practice.

Matt certainly has been able to display his knowledge and talent on the handbells. You should ask him about playing the melody on 8 chimes while the rest of the 8 or 9 of us played the back up chords. I was so proud of him. And it made me smile to see how happy playing handbells again made him.

Yesterday we were late to the practice. We walked in and they were shocked, then they stated that we could sign a card that they had going around. So we grabbed the card and were about to sign when we realized that the card was to US! To say that they missed us at practice and hoped we would come back...little did they know we were just late.

I think we might just stay at this church for awhile..... :)

How often do you think of sending yourself a card?? They sound like really nice people. I'm excited to see this church when we come this weekend.

I know how he feels! Our church doesn't have a handbell choir, and I miss ringing so much. We do have choir chimes, which of course are not the same thing at all, but it's better than nothing. They just use them for accent bells when they chant the psalm. But I did talk our choir director into letting me solo-ring the chimes during the fraction anthem. Matt, do you remember how hard it is to solo-ring choir chimes? They are clunky and hard to ring fast. About all you can do is play "Come to Jesus" in whole notes. I keep hoping they'll catch on and let me start a real handbell program here. Someday!

Lana,

You should ask Matt to pull out his senior book. He has (or used to have) a cassette tape of his greatest handbell performances in it. You haven't lived until you have heard Handel's Water Music played on 3 octaves of handbells - by only three ringers.
