STEM Day

The school system that Grace attends and that I work in, works very hard to include STEM activities.  STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering, and Mathematics.  I love that these activities are done so much in school and that Grace finds that building things and creating things is very second nature.
The school system had a STEM day at the local mall.  The first activity we went to was a pinewood derby race between Grace and Glen.  Grace won them all.  Then we went to The Big Bad Wolf where the kids had to build structures out of marshmallows, gum drops, and toothpicks.  Then those running the booth would put a plate of sugar on top and see if it could hold the weight.  Both Grace and Glen had strong structures!
They also got to play with play doh at this booth.  Not sure what the reasoning was, but the kids had fun with it.
Grace built a boat out of styrofoam and then had it run off of soap.  It was amazing to see the boat zoom around just from the soap that they placed on the back of the boat.
Keep building, kids!  I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
