Swimming lessons

This past summer Grace had her first set of swimming lessons.  She was in what is called the Tadpoles class, it was the first preschool class.
There really was no skill taught, it was more of a class that was used to get the children used to water and used to listening to their teacher in the water.
It was 10 days long (Monday-Friday for two weeks) and about an hour each day.  Grace loved classes!
Glen and I would drop Grace off and then go off for a two mile run around the neighborhood.  We would usually get done early enough to be able to see the last half of Grace's class.  Glen just loved sitting in the stroller and playing with the keys.
Grace will take the next set of classes this fall.  I have a feeling that we are going to be busy with swimming lessons for the next few years.

Glen and his Mailbox

For some unknown reason to me, Glen has had a fascination with mailboxes for a few months now.  He loves to check them over and over and over.  He likes to look at the numbers on them and call out those numbers.  He likes to check them even when it is not our mailbox.
So at a yard sale we found a toy mailbox for 25 cents.  So we paid for it and for the next 30 minutes or so I heard Glen sing "I got a mailbox, I got a mailbox, I got a mailbox."  The newness has worn off a bit since we bought it, but he still uses it to carry his trains and blocks to mamaw and papaw's house.

First Play

This has been a summer of firsts.  Starting off with the end of June, Grace and I went to see her first live play.  The local library has a great summer reading program and as part of their program they offered The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs performed by the Roanoke Children's Theater for free.
As we were waiting we took a few pictures of ourselves.
Grace loved the play.  Her favorite character was the big bad wolf.  She still talks about the story and what really happened in the three little pigs.

Elliptical

Mom and Dad have an elliptical machine in their house for exercise.  Glen found it, and though it is twice his size he loves to run it.  He can make the peddles go forward and backward, he holds onto the bars that go back and forth, and he loves to adjust the tension by moving a lever up and down.  He has been trying to do this for months and finally his little legs are big enough to go all the way around.  He is so happy!

Roles Reversed

Something seems a little backwards here.
But it looks like all involved were having fun!

A Day At Highland Retreat

Every June Highland Retreat has a steak bbq as a fundraiser.  We decided to go to the camp for the day (and we actually left before the bbq, but we had so much fun!
We went on a hike, and guess what!
 The kids found WATER.
Actually mud, but it is all the same in their eyes.
Whatever you call it, it was fun to play in.

Then we went into the stream.
 More WATER!
 They caught many minnows.
Let's just say, these were the two places that the kids let us spend any time.  Can you tell what they thought was fun?  WATER!

Putt Putt

During the summer our library has Free Fridays

If you sign up for the reading program you get a bracelet that will get you into certain activities for free on certain Fridays.
So another mother and I decided to have a play date for Grace and Grace H. at the free putt putt.  Grace had never played before, and it was nothing like a game, but the kids had fun hitting the ball, throwing the ball, dropping it into the holes, and running around.
Glen dropped his ball down the hole and saw that it went on the grass below,
So he had to check out the hole to see why it did that.  Then he needed to drop the ball, get the ball, drop the ball, get the ball about 10 more times before we were able to leave that green.

It was a fun time.

While Mom Is Away...

This year I taught summer school
While I was at summer school the kids went to Mamaw and Papaw's house.  Amy came over quite a bit too to help with the kids.
It was nice while teaching to get random pictures of what the kids were up to.
They had a lot of fun!

Working Together

Sometimes you just need a helping hand
 Whether it be with gardening
 or swinging
knowing someone is there to help, just makes a person happy!
