Day Hike

Matt got a job after four and a half months of unemployment.  We had ten days to have a vacation together before he would be starting work.
So we decided to take a quick hiking trip as a family for a Thursday.  We started off with a breakfast of donuts while we drove to Shenandoah National Park.  Then to Dark Hollow Falls, a hike that is fairly simple, well maintained, and only 1.5 miles round trip.
There was water almost the entire time of the trip.  That kept both Grace and Glen going.
The other thing that they loved was climbing on all of the rocks.

Grace walked the entire way and loved it.  Glen walked all but maybe a tenth of a mile at the end when he was just too tired.
The falls at the end were amazing!
Me and my little 4 year old hiker.

Matt hiked with Grace on the way back, and I hiked with Glen.  At times Glen and I were a bit slow.  However, I think that Grace trying to fall asleep on the trail was a bit dramatic.
Then we had a picnic at a nearby campsite, it was a great time.
Wonderful memories.  Even if it is not an amazing, multiple day vacation.
